Innovative Percussion Endorsement: My Go-To Drumsticks and Mallets
Innovative Percussion Drumsticks, Mallets, and Accessories
I am now officially an endorsed artist and educator with Innovative Percussion.
I have been using Innovative Percussion drumsticks and mallets for over 15 years across drum set, concert percussion, marching snare drum, and marching tenor drum ensembles. Their consistency, durability, and sound quality have made them a core part of my teaching studio and performance work.
If you are searching for the best drumsticks for drum set, concert snare drum sticks, or marching percussion sticks and mallets, this is the exact setup I use in real world playing situations.
Drum Set and Concert Percussion Sticks
For drum set, I primarily use the NZ-1 drumsticks. These are some of the most versatile drum set sticks I have used, offering a balanced feel that works well for rock, jazz, studio playing, and general practice. The rebound is consistent, and the stick responds cleanly across cymbals and drum surfaces, which makes it a strong choice for drummers looking for reliable all-purpose drumsticks.
For concert percussion and orchestral snare drum playing, I use the CL-3L concert snare drum sticks. These sticks are designed for clarity, control, and precision, making them ideal for concert band, wind ensemble, and orchestral percussion settings. The response is clean without being overly aggressive, which helps maintain a refined concert snare drum sound in both soft and loud dynamics.
If you are looking for concert snare drum sticks or professional concert percussion sticks that maintain consistency across different playing environments, the CL-3L is a strong option.
Marching Snare Drum Sticks
For marching snare drum performance, my primary stick is the FS-BK marching snare drum stick. This is my go-to stick for most marching percussion applications. It delivers power, durability, and projection needed for outdoor marching band and drum corps environments.
The FS-BK is designed for strong articulation and consistent response, especially in high-volume ensemble settings where clarity at distance is critical.
To contrast that sound, I also use the IP-1 General marching snare drum stick as an auxiliary option.
The IP-1 General provides a thinner, more controlled sound compared to the FS-BK. What makes it especially useful is that it shares a very similar bead shape and profile to the FS-BK, which allows players to switch between them without a major change in technique or grip feel.
This combination gives a marching snare line more flexibility in tone color while maintaining consistency in stick mechanics. In practical terms, it allows for contrast between primary power sound and auxiliary articulation without disrupting performance comfort.
If you are searching for marching snare drum sticks or Innovative Percussion marching sticks for drum corps or marching band, the FS-BK and IP-1 General combination is a strong professional setup.
Marching Tenor Drum Sticks and Mallets
For marching tenor drums, Innovative Percussion provides a wide range of options depending on ensemble level and sound design goals.
The FT-1 tenor mallets are my primary tenor drum mallets for younger groups because they project sound so well! These produce a strong, aggressive tone that works well for projecting across a full marching ensemble. They are especially effective for experienced tenor lines or outdoor performance settings where projection is essential.
For a more articulate and controlled sound with a more advanced group, I use the TS-2 tenor drum sticks. These feature a larger nylon bead that provides clarity and precision, making them ideal for cleaner rhythmic passages and outdoor projection without excessive weight. These are also a good auxiliary drumstick for beginner groups to contrast the heavy FT-1 mallets.
For indoor percussion or lighter ensemble settings, the FS-2T Shorty tenor sticks are a great option. Their shorter length and all hickory construction give them a very controlled feel around the drums while still maintaining articulation and clarity.
I’m also a sucker for a really light, deliberately thin sound for extreme scenarios! Check out the IP-JC concert snare stick for a lighter application, still with a bit of weight behind the sound.
For softer textures, I use felt and fleece mallets:
FT-2 hard felt tenor mallets for controlled soft dynamics and contrast
FT-3 fleece tenor mallets for the softest and warmest ensemble sound and extreme contrast
These allow for full dynamic range shaping in marching tenor drum arrangements.
